What a unique set of salt and pepper shakers & matching toothpick holder, too! All nestled into a perfectly sized holding tray, to keep everything together. The stone construction provides a wonderful weight and the art deco-ish design is very distinctive and stylish. The seller has thoughtfully included two extra plugs for the shakers, as a bonus. Would make a great gift as well as be an excellent second set for home (especially attractive for outdoor dining scenarios as these are quite sturdy). It’s just nice to admire the workmanship in this product - and to be around things that aren’t made of paper or plastic. Impressive and practical - a hard to come by combination.
These salt and pepper shakers are quite the conversation piece for our new home. I've never had many people comment on our salt and pepper shakers before, but these are quite stylish and we've had several people mention them when they've come over for a meal.
I don't know how they hollowed out the inside of a piece of marble, but the tray and both shakers are made out of marble with a marble appearance. It has a round piece of marble for toothpicks. The holes on the shakers allow a bit more salt or pepper to flow through them, so you have to be a bit careful when using them, but they don't put out way too much to make them impractical. A trick my grandmother taught me when it seems like the salt or pepper is sticking and won't come out is to put a few grains of rice in the shakers to keep the moisture at bay.
I've been using ancient tupper ware salt and pepper shakers for decades because they work just fine and they have a very large capacity, but I wanted to finally upgrade my set to something more sleek and refined in appearance than the aging plastic ones that are older than I am. This shaker set is just the thing to satisfy that desire, and the small containers are good for keeping the seasonings cycled through and fresh in my humid environment.
These shakers look the same in person as they do in the images, and the black marble is lovely! The shakers have nickel sized openings on the bottoms, the shaker holes are well drilled and properly sized for seasoning application, and the shakers provide a satisfactory amount of seasonings when used. This shaker set also came with extra stoppers for the shakers, which is a nice touch.
The angled design of the shakers is unusual and eye-catching, and makes for an upscale addition to table dressings.
