The quality of the stone; travertine & marble is unquestionable. It is a very heavy set and excellent value at $65. The polish and finish of the board and the pieces are also very good. The pieces do arrive a bit dusty (dust from stone). There are circular black stickers included to affix to the bottom of each piece.
The style of the pieces is somewhat unique. The knights appear to have been dieting, and the rooks seems to be parading as shorter versions of the queen.
This is my first contact with travertine stone and I'm definitely on the fence with regards to it's look and feel. This particular type of stone is cheaper than marble (but more expensive that granite) and is filled with irregular holes and crevices, which I can kind of appreciate as a design feature, but I do suffer from a degree of trypophobia, and the texture is throwing me little - so if you, or who you'll be playing with has that affliction, it's a factor to consider.
This marble chess set is even more beautiful in person! The 12-inch travertine and oceanic stone board is elegant and polished, and the pieces feel solid, smooth, and substantial—definitely not your average chess set.
It comes with 2 extra queens, which is a thoughtful touch for serious players, and the storage box keeps everything secure and organized. I also love that it includes checkers, so it’s a two-in-one family game set.
Perfect for display or gameplay, this set adds a classy touch to any room and makes an amazing gift for chess lovers. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase!

It’s a decent set. For the price I’d expected it to be a bit more polished overall but it’s better than a cheap plastic set and I’m not a grand master anyway. I play chess with family and friends for fun. It’s not that nice and it’s actually pretty small compared to most full size boards and pieces that I’ve seen.
